A solid business foundation goes hand in hand with a solid brand foundation. Over the past several years I have helped numerous companies establish their brand but have also witnessed several of them make mistakes along the way.
Below you will find 4 common branding mistakes that I often see businesses make.
- Not creating guidelines. Creating a style guide for your brand allows you to stay on track with the visuals you established. It allows you to pass on this document as parameters to future employees or any freelance designers you plan to higher. Creating this system of rules keeps your brand looking consistent across marketing channels not matter who is producing your content.
- Not staying consistent. Your brand must stay consistent across marketing channels. Whether it is print, digital or the language you use, representing your brand in a consistent and unifying way, allows your audience to build brand awareness and trust.
- Following trends without your audience in mind. You must always lead with the mind of your consumer. Following a trend or fad within an industry or marketing in general isn’t always the best choice for your brand. Trends are often short term and you will end up changing and updating your content further down the road anyway.
- Not hiring a professional designer. Nothing can hurt your company worse than having an amateur looking brand. Hiring a professional to take your vision and mission and create a visual representation, is one of the best decisions you can make. Even if you have this established, hiring someone to tweak and rework your brand can never hurt.
